Managerial Leadership
Principals will ensure that the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem-solving, communicating expectations and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines in the building. The principal must be responsible for the monitoring of the school budget and the inclusion of all teachers in the budget decision so as to meet the 21st century needs of every classroom. Effectively and efficiently managing the complexity of everyday life is critical for staff to be able to focus its energy on improvement.
Element 5A: School Resources and Budget
The school executive establishes budget processes and systems which are focused on, and result in, improved student achievement.
Several of the beginning teachers under my leadership were struggling to create an online environment for their students to use to continue their learning outside of the classroom. I created a template and delivered training on how to use the tools within Canvas to maximize learning opportunities for students and help parents stay connected with their child's daily classroom experiences.

Our Foods and Nutrition teacher, who was new to our school this year, was also in need of additional supplies for students in her classroom. I collected donations for her classroom and was able to provide her with several boxes of kitchen equipment throughout the year.
Element 5B. Conflict Management and Resolution
The school executive effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interaction so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Throughout my residency, I had the opportunity to engage in several Restorative Justice sessions to help students resolve conflicts and alleviate tension. These sessions were successful and served as a positive alternative to suspensions or other unfavorable disciplinary actions traditionally taken by school leaders in incidents of student conflict and altercation.
Element 5C: Systematic Communication
The school executive designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Clear, consistent and systematic communication from the administrative team puts our customers first and shows the value we place on being transparent and open. A variety of ways exist in which this goal is accomplished on a daily basis, but some of the most important ways information is shared to our students, their families and our community at Bunn High School is through the use of our school website, our Robo call automated phone system, and Remind text message alerts, which I created this year for our buses. In today's digital age, the majority of our information is communicated via the website, however we recognize that not everyone has internet access and we do our best to accommodate these important patrons as well.
5D. School Expectations for Students and Staff
The school executive develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
School executives are responsible for maintaining order and structure within their school building and at off-campus activities and extra-curricular opportunities. It is therefore essential to have clear communication regarding expectations for both the students and the staff. Throughout my professional practice, I worked to provide written instructions, along with verbal reminders, to help alleviate miscommunication and confusing over what is expected and provide detailed direction regarding how procedures should be implemented.
